Media Coverage of Environmental and Social Change in Northern Norway’s Coastal Regions: Main Themes in National and International News

Media are important agents in the shaping of northern images. coverage influences public perceptions and policy governing resource societal development. But popular media often provide incomplete skewed representations compared to documentation provided by scientific literature range activities interests present a region. We conducted topic analysis environmental social change Helgeland, Lofoten, Vesterålen regions Norway Svalbard high Arctic during approximately 2014 2018. Our findings show that collectively contribute an image expanding economic development based on natural exploitation. However, this narrative is terms dynamics linked as documented somewhat biased towards climate change, oil gas exploitation, tourism, marine harvesting. Emergency preparedness issues transitions under-communicated, we conclude only partly represents alternative government discourse issues.
